The area containing our bowling green (X) was originally part of Shrewbridge farm, then of a rather grand Shrewbridge Hall which was later extended to become the Brine Baths Hotel. Opening in 1897 it had 54 rooms and many facilities including the bowling green. The hotel closed in 1947 and in the absence of a buyer was demolished in 1959 to be covered in housing estates.
In 1906 the bowling green became an independent gentlemens' club and is now a friendly club open to all.
